The Harry
Ferris Company was founded in 1963 when Harry Ferris started as
an instrument repair specialist providing service in Iowa and
Nebraska on all brands of industrial instruments. As time progressed
there was an apparent need to provide supplies such as chart paper
and ink. This led to clients asking about chart recorders and
temperature controls. The first product sold by Harry Ferris Company
was a line of Esterline Angus chart recorders. An early OEM customer
was Isco, Inc., in Lincoln, Nebraska, who bought an OEM version
of a simple 4 inch wide recorder. Isco manufactured a line of
analytical equipment for laboratory usage. Their product line
included a fraction collector for sampling a variety of wet chemistry
samples. The technology for doing this automatic sampling led
to the development of a wastewater sampler that could automatically
pump a sample into a base section holding up to 28 bottles. The
association with Isco, Inc., led to the opportunity of becoming
one of the first three sales organizations signed up in 1970 to
market their now famous line of quality wastewater samplers and
flow meters.
Harry Ferris Company grew in 1971 with the
addition of Jim Ferris, son of the owner and originator, and contiues
to be a successful sales and service organization. Jim took over
sales and engineering assistance for eastern Iowa and has operated
continuously out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, since 1971. Sales and
service continued to grow and in 1982 John Van Essen was hired
to handle sales in Nebraksa and western Iowa. John continued with
the company until 2002 when he was forced into early retirement
due to health problems. At that time Justin Meader was brought
on board to handle sales and service in the Nebraska and Western
Iowa territory.
Harry Ferris retired from the business in the 1980s and was bought
out by his son Jim and John Van Essen. At Johns' retirement in
2002 the company has become solely owned by Jim and his wife Myrna.
Additional lines have been added to the Isco products sold from
the early 1970s. Our specialty is in wastewater instrumentation
and power measurement with a fine line of products from Ametek
Corporation. Annual sales have topped two million dollars and
business continues to expand. Jim and Justin maintain offices
in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska, respectively and credit
the success of their efforts to the Lord Jesus whom they seek
to serve first and foremost. If it is our privilege to assist
you in your monitoring needs in the future, we welcome your inquiries
and look forward to meeting many new friends and associates along
the way.
